Ciao Temu, mi dispiaghet ma no podo fueddare su sardu... at least not very well :)

I don't know any Italian at all either... I'm learning Sardinian though. You contacted me on meta, if you remember... I can understand Sardinian and Italian a bit so it's OK if you don't respond in English... and if you can't understand English very well je puis ecrire en francais (o espanol) aussi.

If I understand correctly you invited me to the discussion about what variety of Sardinian to use, on the sc.wikipedia tavern. Unfortunately I can barely understand what people are already saying, and I wouldn't be able to add any input myself.

But I would like to let you know that I have made available an English / Sardinian dictionary online, currently at 867 terms, using the LSU.

It's already been linked, http://fixedsys.org/~node_ue/itak/ ... it's small, but I add 30 or 40 terms every day or so (just a week ago it was only just over 600 terms, and a month ago it was 0), and if you want a specific word added I can help with that. I also translated parts of the dictionary interface to Sardinian, whereas it used to be entirely in English

Also, if you notice anything incorrect, you can report it and I will be happy to fix it as soon as possible.

Back to the topic of Wikipedia though... I am actually the guy who had requested the creation of this Wikipedia, quite a long time ago, and made the initial version of the mainpage. I tried to get Sardinians to add content, but I couldn't get anybody except occasional small additions (somebody translated the whole of the user interface).

Diegu Corraine from Ufitziu Limba Sarda in Nuoro seemed willing to dedicate his organisation to help adding content, but my e-mails to him don't go through anymore, and there are some contributors finally anyways :)

It's nice to see that there are _finally_ people here... and the fostering of relationships between Italy's minority-language Wikipedias is good too (Friulian, Sicilian, and Sardinian are the only specific ones, there are also Catalan and Occitan Wikipedias which might work a little for Alguerese and Lombard). One particular topic of interest to me is "sas limbas `ateras de sa sardinna" - Alguerese Catalan, Carlofortino (Tabarchino?), so-called "Corsico-Sardinian" in the north... also, the Sardinian pika ("giant rabbit with short ears") is fascinating to me, and I hope someday I may speak Sardinian and come to Sardinia... it seems so beautiful from photographs and stories.

Saludos Temugin73,
I have a deep interest in Sardinia and the language and culture, and when I saw that there was no Sardinian Wikipedia, I requested its creation. I have requested a total of 3 Wikipedias: Sardinian (my first), Sicilian (my second), and Friulian (my most recent).
The request for Sardinian was a lesson for me - I should have support for a Wikipedia *before* it was created, otherwise it might stay mostly inactive as scwiki did for so long. I was able to get the help of a Sardinian man for the content that you already saw on the mainpage: the welcome message, the message asking for help translating the interface, etc., but he was not willing to add beyond that because "he wasn't familiar with how Wikipedia works".
As for the LSU of Corraine, I discovered it when I was looking to see if there was any proposed standard for Sardinian. This was at the time I first requested the creation of the Wikipedia - I thought it would be better if there was a standard variety. I wasn't sure if it was suited for use here though because I read that many people don't like it, and even though it is official in the province of Nuoro, it's only used in official documents mostly.
So, I decided that I would leave it up to real Sards to decide what variety they would like to use.
About a month ago, when I started the dictionary... I think that any serious bilingual dictionary needs to have some standard for both languages. (for English, I used the "international" standard common to Canada, UK, Australia, etc. instead of the American standard) I wanted to have one entry for each word, rather than different ones for different dialectal forms of the word (this is what you may often see at ditzionariu.org).
The dictionary isn't so much intended as a dictionary of LSU but rather as a Sardinian <-> English dictionary which uses LSU for the Sardinian writing.
That way, rather than having an entry that tells people that "andai" is also sometimes "andare", "andhare", "andhai", "andari", and whatever other orthographical and dialectal variants there may be for that word, I can have an entry for "andare" and just give a translation for that one word.
A few words (search the dictionary for "orange" or "grey" for example) give the translations in dialects, though, and maybe I will expand this later.
However, for headwords - that is, for navigation of the dictionary - I plan to continue using LSU, unless there is another proposal for a standard, consistent spelling.
Best, Node

Ciao Temugin73, ho assegnato i diritti di amministratore a M64. Scusa se non ti ho risposto in precedenza ma ero all'estero per lavoro e quando sono tornato mi sono dimenticato di rispondere. Mi sembra di capire che comunque hai trovato un qualche accordo con l'altro utente. --Snowdog 22:41, Giu 5, 2005 (UTC)

Ditzionàriu multisardu!!![modìfica su còdighe de orìgine]

Saludos Temu,

I'm transforming my dictionary into a "ditzionàriu multisardu". For example, please see these pages: note, aba, and ozu.

I've tried hard to include translations to Tabarchino, Algherese, and all varieties of Sardinian where possible, as well as translations in other languages like Italian, French, German, Japanese.

It's difficult to find resources for Sardinian varieties, though. Do you know any websites I can try?

Gràtzias e saludos!
